The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for an investigation into the reported terrorist attack on its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in Yola, Adamawa. The PDP spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, issued a statement in Abuja expressing the party’s concern over the foiled terrorist attack on Abubakar and other sensitive locations in Yola, Adamawa.

According to Mr. Ologunagba, the arrested assailants confessed that the plot bore the marks of a sponsored attempt on Abubakar’s life. The PDP has called on the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, to lead the investigation and track down the sponsors to ensure the security, unity, and well-being of the nation. The federal government is also urged to ensure that the perpetrators and their sponsors face justice, considering the gravity of the attempted attack.

In light of this incident during Nigeria’s democratic process, Mr. Ologunagba urged security agencies to tighten security around Abubakar and his family members. He commended the collaborative efforts of vigilantes and security agencies in thwarting the attack and urged the public to remain calm as authorities conduct their investigation to uncover the masterminds.

On Sunday, the police in Adamawa arrested four suspects believed to be members of Boko Haram in connection with the alleged plot to attack Mr. Abubakar’s residence. One of the suspects was apprehended by the security detail at Abubakar’s house, while another was arrested at a different location in the state capital. The suspects, including a 29-year-old man who confessed to being a Boko Haram member from Borno, were handed over to the military authorities for further action.
