The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) strongly criticizes the All Progressives Congress (APC) for selecting Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the ethically questionable former Governor of Kano State, as its National Chairman.

The choice of Dr. Ganduje as the APC’s National Chairman, despite the well-known corruption and bribery allegations against him, further confirms the perception that the APC harbors corrupt individuals and acts as a safe haven for thieves and treasury looters.

By appointing Ganduje, who gained notoriety as “Gandola” due to a video allegedly showing him accepting US Dollar notes as a bribe from a contractor while he was Governor of Kano State, the APC demonstrates that it lacks integrity and supports embezzlers and charlatans.

This decision also reveals the APC’s disregard for the principles of honesty, integrity, and moral rectitude expected from public officeholders.

The PDP draws attention to the recent forensic analysis by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), which confirmed the authenticity of the 2017 “Gandollar” viral video, indicating that the APC’s choice is deeply flawed.

It is surprising that Ganduje, who should potentially face prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged bribery, is instead rewarded with the position of APC National Chairman. This situation reflects poorly on the APC under Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reveals its association with “political bandits,” as described by the former Director General of Progressive Governors’ Forum.

Regarding Ganduje’s ambition to “hit the ground running” and secure victories for the APC in upcoming governorship elections, the PDP dismisses this as mere wishful thinking. The PDP reminds Ganduje of his humiliating defeat as Co-Chairman of the APC National Campaign Council for the July 2022 Osun State Governorship election, which was overwhelmingly won by the PDP. The PDP predicts a similar crushing defeat for the APC in the November 11, 2023, Governorship elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo States.

Furthermore, the PDP points out that the APC’s humiliating loss in Kano State during the 2023 general elections, which occurred under Ganduje’s watch as Governor, demonstrates that he lacks political value and cannot secure victories in any electoral contest in the country.

If Ganduje truly wishes to “hit the ground running,” he should submit himself to the EFCC for investigation and prosecution regarding the cases of alleged bribery and corruption that have been linked to him.
