The Republic of Niger faces the United States’ potential withdrawal of multimillion-dollar economic and security assistance due to the ousting of President Mohamed Bazoum and his family. The U.S. warned the coup leaders about the consequences of disregarding constitutional order, risking substantial financial and security support. The coupists have not complied, prompting the U.S. to suspend certain aid due to the fluid situation. Acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland expressed concern and commitment to democracy during her visit to Niger’s capital. She praised American Embassy staff and affirmed ongoing collaboration with allies, including the ECOWAS.
