The United States has cautioned the Niger junta that they might be compelled to engage militarily if the military rulers fail to reinstate constitutional governance. Victoria Nuland, the acting Deputy Secretary of the US, conveyed this in a special briefing on Niger through a teleconference. She indicated that the US is closely observing the governance situation, engaging in consultations with allies, and is prepared to act diplomatically to restore constitutional order. Nuland mentioned that President Joe Biden has maintained communication with ECOWAS Chairman President Tinubu and other European partners to address the challenge to democratic order initiated on July 26.
