Despite opposition from prominent figures and groups against military force in Niger Republic, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) leaders have directed the immediate deployment of a standby force to restore constitutional order in the country. This decision comes after a series of propositions were made to the military junta in Niger, aiming to reinstate democratic governance. ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF), composed of military, police, and civilian components, aligns with UN Charter Chapter VIII for regional peace and security. ECOWAS also urged partners like the United Nations to aid their efforts for quick restoration. However, the junta warned of harm to the deposed President Bazoum if any military intervention occurs.
