Ahead of South Africa’s 2024 election, at least seven opposition political parties have united to challenge the ruling African National Congress (ANC). This coalition, known as the Multi-Party Charter for South Africa, plans to distribute ministry roles and parliamentary seats if victorious. The ANC has held power since the end of apartheid in 1994. While over 14 parties are represented in parliament, some are registered but not active. The ANC, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and Democratic Alliance (DA) are key players. Concerns include the economy, crime, unemployment, and energy woes. This alliance signals a potential shift in power dynamics.
